On my birthday, my sister and I had brunch at Palm Vaults. The café is decorated in a very urban way. You can tell even before entering the café, that you aren’t entering your normal cafés like Costa or Starbucks. You will be surrounded with pastel decor and plants hanging beautifully from the ceiling. Oh and if you are a vegan, you will be spoiled for choice!

To begin, I had a Lavender Latte and toast with tomato, basil and pesto. My sister had a mushroom toastie.

I have been so bad with keeping my blog updated and I would like to first of all apologise for it. However, I’ve got some good news for you! I have made sure that I will definitely be able to keep you posted as planned from now on!!!

Anyway… So you know how I said I am going to follow my routine religiously… That did not happen. I just had too much stuff to handle and too stressed out.

I quit my second job. Yes… I worked seven days a week. I was crazy. Don’t know what I was thinking. I did not sleep well and put on weight and lost weight dramatically. Not good. Also the reason why I couldn’t blog!

Finally got some sense and started to think about myself from now on.

Bought myself a new toy – The Fitbit Charge 2 :D

Hopefully it will help me stay on track!

First of all, I would like to thank you all for making me reach my first milestone (just over 100 followers)!!! Never expected to even get 10 followers let alone more than 10 times that!

So what kind of posts can you expect this month?

The special posts in February are going to be Valentine’s day themed. Watch out for the special feature of Say hi to… this month! Other than that, as promised at the beginning of the month, there will be a monthly DIY project, at least one recipe, hopefully a review of a place I will visit this month and a few random posts.

Tip 2

If you are a student, then you’d probably want to know how to manage your money. I had my first job when I was 16, but never used the money earned, because I didn’t really have the need to. But as soon as I started going to university and got extra money through student finance (loan), I went out of control.

When I was in my first year, I had money which I saved up for like 3 years, the money from student finance and more money from my part time job. I paid my rent in full and basically had lots of money left just to spend on me. So I went shopping at least once a week, ate out a lot and to be honest I was spending money like crazy.

However, in my second year, I started to realise I am spending way too much money and I really needed to stop. My rent was way to high. I had to pay £550 per month for my studio. I was only fine for the first month of my second year. I struggled a lot. Second year was pretty much the complete opposite from my first year at uni.

So now I’m in third year, you would assume that I would have finally learned a lesson. Heck no. Well, to be honest, I am doing better now than last year. My rent is about £200 per month less than last year. I have been fine with paying all my bills, and I am not starving myself. 

I’m fine right? I mean where’s the problem? Well, at the beginning of the year, I had to buy a new laptop because my other one died. I mean I could have bought something cheaper, but no… I had to buy the macbook. In my defence, I had a shitty laptop for about 6 years and I deserve a nice laptop.

So long story short. I need to budget the money I have left now and I thought…Hey, I could help you guys a bit as well !


Before you spend your money, work out whether it will still be sufficient for you to look after yourself.

Keep track of your money every time you want to spend your money, make a note. Work out whether you’ll still be fine after spending it.

I have set up a text service with my bank. Every time I spend money, I will receive a text message letting me know how much I have spent and how much I still have left in my account.

Pay your rent/bills as soon as you can, so you won’t have to worry about it all the time.

The one thing people spend a lot of money on and don’t realise is on food and stuff like toiletries.

Before you go grocery shopping, the best thing to do, is to do, is to make a list of the things you want and work out how much you will spend. My budget for food and drink is £20 per week. At the beginning of the week, I take £20 out of the ATM machine. I will tell myself that I only have £20 left and try to use it as carefully as I can.

I have noticed, that a lot of people think Poundland/Dollarshop/anything equivalent, is cheaper than other stores. In most cases it is, but what I have noticed is, some things are in fact cheaper at your normal stores. There are cheaper alternatives, you just have to do your research before you head out to get items. An easy way to find the cheaper alternative is to use the mySupermarket app.

To be honest with you, my memory is really, really, really bad. But from what I can remember, this year has been quite a roller coaster.

I quit the pharmacy assistant job I had at the end of the previous year and it was really though for me. There have been weeks where I only lived on cornflakes and sometimes days when I didn’t eat at all and just lived on water. I’ve never felt so poor and lost. I have never felt so emotionally unstable before. I’ve had second thoughts about the course I am currently doing, and even was on the verge of changing it.

The first half of the year was very stressful. I even went to get myself checked out, because I really wasn’t myself. Lots of sleepless nights, days that I pretty much just wasted by not doing anything and most of the time just spent within four walls.

The stress did have an advantage…For a bit anyway. I went to the gym, in the hope of a distraction, but even that didn’t work out along the line. I came across people that weren’t supportive, and instead decided to make me feel worse about myself, stating the obvious and making me feel like I have no hope.

During the summer holidays, I had to find myself a job so I could pay my rent for my student house in third year. My job was at a customer service centre, taking calls from customers who were mostly expecting a parcel. As you could imagine, the job was horrible. Most of the customers on the line were just complaining and even verbally abusing me through the phone. Most of the time it wasn’t anything personal and I knew that. But it really does get to you eventually. Constantly listening to people yell at you from 8 in the morning till 8 in the afternoon is not really ideal. I’ve had moments when I just went on a break, went to the toilets just to cry my eyes out. Eventually I ended up quitting the job. I didn’t earn enough and was unable to pay the first rent payment.

A lot more went on this year. But there were some amazing memories I will cherish, too. For example, my week in London. The London trip was amazing. To think I have lived in England for about ten years and I only really got to see London properly this year is kind of bad. I have been to London before, but my week there has really made me wonder why I haven’t explored it like this before. London truly is an amazing city. The one week I spent there was not enough! But that’s good, because now I have a reason to go to London more often!

While I was in London, I had the pleasure of meeting four amazing people Kavino (MYA Photography), Vithya (Hair and Make up Artist), Koby (founder of Tamil Hindu Weddings) and a member of the Vivaha Magazine, whose name  I unfortunately can’t remember (I’m sorry if you ever read this!). I won a competition around that time for a photo shoot run by Tamil Hindu Weddings. The photo shoot didn’t carry on as planned, because I ended up backing out due to personal reasons. Nevertheless, meeting them was an absolute pleasure. A special shout out to Kavino who I’ve talked to more than the others. She truly is an amazing and kind person. Beautiful inside and out!

There were other special moments, like actually somehow passing my second year (thank god), my 21st birthday, my dad’s 50th birthday, the Christmas Eve Party recently and of course starting this blog!!!

This year has taught me a lot of lessons, given me a lot of good memories and made me meet a lot of new kind souls who I’m looking forward to sharing more memories with in the coming years.

I’m not going to lie and say that I have already corrected the mistakes I have made in 2014. I still don’t have a proper job and I’m still struggling a bit financially, but I’m not going to let that ruin me. Instead, I’m just going to make sure I make good use of every second of the coming years.

Hopefully 2015 will be much better than 2014. Make every second of the coming years count!

RELAUNCH!

It’s going to be a month since I started my blog. The one month was just a trial to see if it was going anywhere.Turns out I do enjoy it and have decided to actually carry on with it. On the 4th December, the new site will be relaunched, with a new name, new website, new design, more posts that might interest you and even giveaways!!!…So watch out!!!

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?

For those of you who don’t know me well, I’m a huge fan of Mindy Kaling. I’m obsessed with her!

So anyway. I just found out recently that she wrote a book called “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And other concerns)”.

As soon as I found out, I ordered it online and just collected it yesterday.

I started reading it straight away, and so far I’m loving it! The book is hilarious, and at the same time I can relate myself so much to her.

Once I’m done with reading the book, I’ll post a more detailed review of the book.

So watch out!!!
